Donyale Luna: The First Black Supermodel

Discovered at the age of 14 by British photographer David McCabe, Luna’s journey to stardom began when she moved to New York City at 19. Her exotic beauty and fearless attitude quickly caught the attention of the fashion world. She was soon gracing the covers of prestigious magazines like Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue.   

A Trailblazer

Luna’s impact on the fashion industry was profound. She was the first Black model to appear on the cover of British Vogue, a significant achievement at a time when racial discrimination was prevalent.
